Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 19, 2026
Civio ("we," "us," or "our") is a nonpartisan civic platform that helps you research political leaders, track elections, and engage as an informed citizen. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Civio, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account or are invited to the platform.
- Profile and civic data: The values, reflections, sample ballots, candidate signals, and reminders you choose to create and save.
- Location (optional): Your city/state, which you provide voluntarily to match local candidates and ballot information. We do not collect precise GPS coordinates.
- Usage data: Anonymous analytics about how you interact with the app, used to improve features and reliability.
Device Permissions
Civio requests only the device permissions needed to deliver its features:
- Notifications: Used to send election deadlines and civic reminders you have opted into. You can disable these at any time in your device settings.
- Internet access: Required to load candidate data, election information, and your saved content.
- Storage: Used only to keep you signed in and remember your preferences between sessions.
We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or files beyond what is strictly necessary for a feature you are actively using. All permissions can be revoked in your device settings.
How We Use Your Information
- To display your saved leaders, ballots, and civic signals back to you.
- To match you with relevant candidates and elections based on your location and values.
- To send reminders and notifications you have requested.
- To operate community discussions and polls you participate in.
- To improve the platform and fix issues.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only as needed to operate the service — for example, with our payment processor (Stripe) for Pro subscriptions, or our hosting and analytics providers under appropriate data agreements. Public content you post (such as community discussions) is visible to other users as described at the point of posting.
Data Security & Retention
Your data is stored securely and access is restricted. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from your profile settings; we process deletion requests promptly. We retain data only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law.
Your Choices
- Use Civio without an account — most features are available to signed-out visitors.
- Edit or remove your saved data at any time.
- Turn off notifications in your device settings or profile preferences.
- Request account deletion from your profile or by contacting us.
Children's Privacy
Civio is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
